POSITION TITLE: ISM Senior Accountant Controller
LOCATION: Owatonna, Minnesota

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Controller serves as a key member of management. This position is responsible for accounting, reporting and financial controls of the $225 million business operation. The position reports directly to the General Manager of Interstate Mills, LLC. In addition to working closely with the entire finance organization, the Controller will work closely with other business partners across the company with special emphasis with the Controller of Central Valley Cooperative.
The Controller will focus on the establishment and ongoing monitoring of financial policies and procedures. Of equal importance, the Controller will work to establish the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness across the accounting department. This position will also oversee a team that supports the company’s financial systems.
This position will have direct leadership responsibility over a team of approximately 8 professionals including 3 to 5 direct reports.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Directs and coordinates all day to day activities of the accounting, production records and tax compliance functions.
- Develops and maintains systems and processes to manage:
- - A/R & A/P
- - General Ledger
- - Fixed Assets
- - Inventory
- Production Records and Pig Group Accounting
- Provides analytical review of financial performance to management and business units to drive performance against budget and optimum expectations.
- Develops and maintains proper and uniform internal accounting and control methods in regards to NP, fixed assets, allocations and inventories.
- Manages relationships with external auditors.
- Responsible for performing cash management related duties.
- In partnership with external tax advisors, lead and coordinate tax planning for company and owners.
- Lead and manage financial reporting systems and processes.
- Supervise job cost and construction in progress (CIP) on company owned facilities; provide lenders with required monthly reporting.
- Manage all financial compliance and reporting requirements.
- Develop and lead Interstate Mills accounting, reporting policies, and procedures.
- Liaison between accounting department and users of financials.
- Participates in the annual budgeting process.
- Collaborates with IT to ensure the information systems that are developed support the operational needs of the company.
- Ability to advise Senior Management on industry trends, issues, and potential opportunities.
- Lead and develop the accounting department.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 6-10+ years of progressive accounting and management experience.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Able to communicate financial topics to various levels of the organization.
- Understanding of integrated accounting system software and processes.
- Thorough understanding of accounting, tax and internal controls.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving and results.
- Highly detail-oriented and organized in work; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness while looking for ways to improve and promote quality.
- Synthesizes complex information; uses intuition and experience to complement data to design effective work flows and procedures.
- Responsible to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

- Experience closing the books, overseeing the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process.
- Financial reporting and GAAP experience.

EDUCATION:
Required-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
CPA preferred; CMA recognized as well.
